As to which system for selecting players would be best, ideally having an elected captain select his team (providing he was neutral) mainly since the best team players are not necessarily the best 1v1'ers, but if we cannot achieve unanimity, then I guess the 5 qualifiers + 3 captain's choice would be fine. I would though suggest a slight tweak to the matches, swapping around match ups 5 and 2, which may balance the draw a little better (analogous to the idea of seeding).

RTKDinas- 07-23-2005

Ok guys you've pinned me down and beaten me into a corner 8) , however, if we are to do this 1v1 tourney thing then it would make sense to have some sort of seeding system, and also there is no point in a second round, whereby the winners play the winners.......as we would already have our selected team :D. I think Madpierres idea can work but I think it needs abit of a tweak, plus it seems, half our team is no longer active on these forums and if they do not become active when the fixtures are released then I dont think they should be told in the lobby......

RTKDinas- 07-23-2005

From what I can tell from looking at the list, the 7 strongest players are (in no particular order) Ktiza, Madpierre, Nihilistic Cow, Plain Old Pete, Dinas, Dagonet and fireblade, these players also being the most active on the forums so far(with the exception of pig). Some may think that it would be unfair to match these 7 vs the remaining 7, but having said that its how seeding systems work as in a tennis match nobody wants to see Roger federer play Andy Roddick in the first round, and for one to be knocked out. Give me your thoughts, but from looking at the list there only seems to be a problem with the ktiza vs pete and the mad vs cow matchups :D . I also think it would be a good idea to hold a meeting online in the competitive lobby- with all of us being english I dont think this will present much of a problem.....I suggest tommorrow (Sunday) at 5pm local team.

NihilisticCow- 07-23-2005

Well, I'm going away, I can't meet people after about 1pm ish tomorrow. After that, I can't play Rome for about 2 weeks (am still online though). Hmmmm... a Mad Cow match up................. maybe appropriate for an English team.

RTKDinas- 07-23-2005

lol Cow, well if 1pm local time is good for everybody else then I dont see a problem.

Madpierre- 07-23-2005

I can make 1pm tomorrow, will even give up the GP for it. However I do not agree with your rankings Platavian because I would have expected Jackal to have been in the list. He may not have played for a while but he is a very good team player, even though it kills me to say it in public :P

RTKDinas- 07-23-2005

Ok well all will be discussed tomoz I guess, although I must ask - who out of those 7 players would Jackal replace?

Madpierre- 07-24-2005

Admin We have discussed this at great length today and come up with a 2v2 format to sort out the English team. Can you please give us a time frame in which we have to complete this process as we are one of the largest countries. Also, is there a chance of entering 2 English teams as there are still not enough to make 16 at this moment in time. We could easily make 2 teams of 6 or 7.

TWWC-Admin- 07-25-2005

1 English team is all that will be allowed...Sice you asked for a cutoff date, make it the last day of this month.... RTKCharlemagne

Madpierre- 07-25-2005

If only 1 English team allowed, what is going to happen should there not be 16 teams that are required to participate? Maybe a team of Britons or Anglo-Saxons?

TWWC-Admin- 07-25-2005

We shall proceed forward with whatever teams we have.... RTKCharlemagne

Madpierre- 07-25-2005

Oh Charl you are a hard task master. All I was suggesting is the possibility of 2 English and 2 Polish teams to make up the 16 that are required to make this tournament viable. At the moment there are countries making the most bizarre alliances to try and fulfil the 16 teams required whereas we have sufficient as do the poles. This way it would give more players the opportunity to play

RTKDinas- 07-25-2005

Mad is right, we need 16 teams for the tournament to work, as 14 would mean 7 go through......you see the problem. Either 8, 16 or 32 teams are needed so that there are equal numbers in each round.......unless, of course, the first stage of the tournament will be a group stage.

TWWC-Admin- 07-25-2005

We will proceed with 1 team from each country..... Please do not be concerned with how I will organise the tourney just understand there are multiple ways to do it.... RTKCharlemagne

I can't believe that there is prejudice against a Great Britain team, for whilst some ppl firmly believe themselves to be English, Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish, other people have the firm view that they are British. Would you not allow a Basque squad,(at the same time as having a Spainish squad,) if there was enough players? I suppose it is hard for people not from the British Isles to fully understand our complex national beliefs, its hard enough for us to understand them ourselves. Thank you.
